Meeting with the Energy Minister Mr Mike O'Brien M.P.
I wish to convey to you that on Friday 23rd January 2009 both the Chairman Mr Peter Storey and I had a private meeting with the Energy Minister, Mr Mike O'Brien M.P at his invitation. During the course of those discussions it was clear that the minister had a clear understanding of our role and we emphasised through those discussions how we felt that by delivering on the Constabulary's "Mission statement" and by our members committing themselves to the capability and capacity review, we would see pay parity with our Home Office/ Scottish Government police colleagues, as a natural progression. We expressed the view that the site licence operators through the Police Authority should meet the cost of this uplift.
On Wednesday the 28th January 2009 the Chairman of the Civil Nuclear Police Authority announced at their monthly meeting which both Peter Storey and I attend as observers, that pay parity and terms and conditions are on the agenda of the Police Authority and those streams of work will be carried out by the CNPA Executive Director Mr Tony Regan and the DCC Mr John Sampson, working in consultation with both ourselves the Civil Nuclear Police Federation and the CNC branch of the Supt's Association of England and Wales.
Mr Melvyn Smith the chairman of our Police Authority stated at this meeting he had met with various MP's who have a CNC presence within their constituency and they had expressed to him their gratitude for the professional manner in which our members go about their roles and responsibilities and they recognised the high skills that our officers posses and will require to ensure the integrity and security of the nuclear establishments we provide a policing service for both now and in the future.
