The most recent biannual conference took place in Manchester on Thursday 27 November.

Federation reps from across the force heard updates from the Executive team on pay, pensions, and conduct, among other matters. The minutes have been shared with Federation members. This was followed by input from the head of CNC's Professional Standards Department.

Later in the day, a panel of guest speakers focused on issues around equality, diversity, and inclusion and how best we can support members with a range of needs. Lastly, we were joined by members of the Force’s senior leadership team, who participated in a lively Q&A session.

Excellence Awards

In the evening, we hosted the inaugural CNP Federation Excellence Awards. We started this new venture modestly, presenting an Inspiration Award and an Unsung Hero Award - the winners of both having been nominated by our members. The third honour, the CEO Award, was chosen by our then-CEO, Gary Thwaite. Meet our winners...

Matthew Fowler - Inspiration Award winner

This award aims to honour a colleague who exceeds expectations in how they support their communities and/or those they work with. This award was given in recognition of Matthew's commitment to going above and beyond to help his colleagues' welfare and mental health, not just those on his shift.

Outside work and in his own time, Matthew (pictured right) supports colleagues who are off work due to welfare and sickness and assists local residents through his work in the community. Matthew has also recently embarked on his initial training with the Army Reserve to serve in the Royal Artillery.

Adrian Bebb - Unsung Hero Award winner

This award recognises a colleague who quietly makes a significant impact. After his eldest daughter was diagnosed with leukaemia, Adrian set about fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer. As well as raising many thousands of pounds, Adrian secured a place in the Guinness Book of Records, having run the London Marathon dressed as a car.

Despite his own challenges, Adrian (pictured left) has and continues to support several colleagues through complex, difficult personal situations.

Roger Middleton - CEO Award winner

This award honours someone who represents the best of what policing can be and who consistently goes that extra mile. Roger has over 40 years of public service in the Metropolitan Police and Civil Nuclear Constabulary. He also tirelessly serves his community, primarily through his work with Twickenham Sea Cadets / London Area Sea Cadets.
