Gary Thwaite
(Outgoing) Chief Executive OfficerChief Inspector Gary Thwaite is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Civil Nuclear Police Federation and is responsible for providing overall direction and leadership for the organisation.
Gary joined the Civil Nuclear Constabulary in 2007. He initially worked at Chapelcross power station in Scotland and later moving to Sellafield where he served as an Authorised Firearms Officer and Operational Firearms Commander, serving on a number of teams and roles.
Gary was an active Police Federation representative and was elected Chair of the Sellafield Branch from 2016 to 2019. In 2019 he was appointed as the national Chair of Civil Nuclear Police Federation and later that year became the Chief Executive Officer, the role he conducts to this present day.
Gary and his small team represent some 1300 police officers across the UK in matters affecting their welfare and efficiency.
Darren Adams
ChairSergeant Darren Adams is the Chair for Civil Nuclear Police Federation. He is responsible for the welfare of the membership, with a specific interest in areas of, Conduct and Performance, Post Incident Procedures and holds the portfolio for health and safety and Unit representative training
Darren joined the Civil Nuclear Constabulary in 2005. He initially worked at Sellafield as an AFO, before moving to Heysham OPU and later to the Strategic Escort Group (SEG) where he undertook international fuel moves to Japan. Darren has held various posts while working in operations, including PST instructor, Licenses Search Officer (LSO) and Police Search Advisor (PoLSA).
He first became a Police Federation representative in 2008 at Heysham. Whilst at Heysham OUP he acted as both Branch Secretary and Branch Chair. Darren was elected to a position on the CNPF Executive in 2019. Darren became the Vice Chair of the Federation in 2023, and the Chair in 2024.
Ian Muir
Vice ChairPC Ian Muir is the Vice Chair and Treasurer for the Civil Nuclear Police Federation. He is responsible for the welfare of the membership with a specific interest in governance, policies, pensions and the maintenance of Federation funds.
Ian joined the Civil Nuclear Constabulary in 1987. He has worked all his service at Dounreay.
He first became a Police Federation Representative in 2004 at Dounreay until he was elected as Chair of the Civil Nuclear Federation in 2019. In 2022 he took up the additional role of Treasurer. In 2024 Ian moved into the role of Vice Chair.
