In a poll held last year, Federation members told us they would value having access to a private healthcare plan, so we’re launching two options that are open to both police officers and staff.
Your healthcare needs are individual, so please read about both options and consider which service best meets them.
National Police Healthcare Scheme NPHS
The NPHS is a private healthcare plan run by police officers for the whole police family. It provides serving and retired officers, police staff, and their families with swift access to the best private medical treatment available, at not-for-profit rates.
The scheme covers the cost of consultant fees, diagnostic procedures/tests, surgical procedures and all relevant treatments and follow-ups, as well as treatments such as physiotherapy and chiropractic. Plus, pre-existing conditions are covered after two years.
Membership of NPHS also includes the Police Treatment Centres, so if you pay for that separately, you can cancel your payment [but please don’t do this until your NPHS membership has been confirmed, as there can be no break in payments to the Police Treatment Centres].
Costs
The cost of NPHS membership varies depending on your age and how many people you would like to include. A 35-year-old officer will pay £26 per month, while a 50-year-old officer who requires membership for their whole family will pay £96. The first three months’ of membership is free for serving officers and staff, while student officers get free membership for the first year.
There is more information about the scheme, what’s covered and the costs available here.
How to access NHPS
Membership fees would be taken as a payroll deduction, and we’re told the scheme should be up and running in CNC this coming April. We will keep you posted on progress.
Some of you told us that you would like a healthcare scheme that could be personalised to your specific circumstances and health needs. With this in mind, another option we are introducing is:

The choice is yours
Private healthcare is a personal decision and entirely optional. We have done considerable research to identify options that account for the unique nature of policing and the challenges our members face.
As with all of the member services we provide, the choice is yours and we encourage you to speak with providers to determine which products and services are right for you.
