In recent months, the Civil Nuclear Police Federation has expanded the group of companies it works with to provide member services and more will come online in the next few weeks.
Given the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and the impact of inflation, we could all use a little help making our money go further. Some of us might be looking to save on everyday spending, while others may be in a position to make a big purchase, such as a car and are looking for a good deal. We might be keen to start putting money aside, investing in our health and wellbeing or need support to manage existing debts.
Each of the organisations we work with either provides services solely to the police and other uniformed services or has deals specifically for the police family.
All member services are listed on our website, and we regularly post about them on social media. However, as a lot has changed lately, here’s a rundown of all the companies we’re currently working with and a nod to those who will be joining us very soon.
Health and wellbeing
As per the comments above, you can now join the National Police Healthcare Scheme via payroll deduction. The NPHS is a private healthcare plan run by police officers for the whole police family. It provides serving and retired officers, police staff, and their families with swift access to the best private medical treatment available, at not-for-profit rates.
The scheme covers the cost of consultant fees, diagnostic procedures/tests, surgical procedures and all relevant treatments and follow-ups, as well as treatments such as physiotherapy and chiropractic. Plus, pre-existing conditions are covered after two years.
Alternatively, Usay Compare is a market-leading health insurance comparison service. It removes the hassle and confusion from comparing policies and provides the best quotes on the market. It compares prices and coverage from the market-leading UK health and life insurance companies such as Aviva, AXA, and Bupa. Their service is completely free of charge, and they are totally independent and impartial.
Costs will vary depending on your individual circumstances and the level of cover you require. As a CNC officer or staff member, you are entitled to two months free (paid via a rebate after your fourth payment). For more info and a quote, visit the dedicated portal.
Financial services
Credit unions can be a great option if you’re looking to borrow responsibly or save safely. Members save a small sum each month (as a minimum), which gives them access to annual dividends and the ability to borrow at a competitive rate. We work with Serve and Protect Credit Union as well as No 1 Copperpot Credit Union.
Police Mutual has a long history of savings and investments for the police family. You might not know the organisation also provides insurance, life insurance, mortgages, personal loans, and independent financial advice.
While we’re on the topic of mortgages, Uniform Mortgages can guide you through the complete mortgage process from start to finish at no cost to you. They will source the right mortgage whether you are a first-time buyer, buying a home, re-mortgaging your existing property, or looking for a buy-to-let. You can contact them at any time, but they also hold a monthly online mortgage surgery.
Police Mortgages also offer a fee-free service. With access to over 90 different lenders, including all UK high street banks, they can compare around 12,000 mortgage products to ensure you’re getting the most suitable mortgage deal.
If it’s an insurance quote you’re after, Police Insure offer quality cover for members of the police family. They can assist with car, motorcycle, home and landlord insurance.
If you think you may have overpaid tax, The Tax Refund Company can check this and potentially secure a refund. In recent years, some colleagues have received refunds averaging £179.61, and others have received more. The review is free of charge unless you get a refund, and terms and conditions apply.
Lastly, on the financial front, Rewards for Police is the longest-running reward scheme for members of the police community. Sign up for free to access thousands of local and national discounts on everything from holidays and theme park tickets to white goods and everyday essentials. Pay an optional £5 per year to benefit from the premium ‘gold discounts’ - premium offers can be used on top of all existing discounts.
Motoring
Motorfinity provides discounts on new vehicles for emergency services personnel, including police. With makes and models available from leading manufacturers, you could save thousands on your next new car. All finance options are available, including cash, HP and PCP, and a competitive part exchange service is available.
Motorsource Group offers discounts on new and used cars as well as leasing options. Motorsource offers a full service, giving you everything you need to drive away in your new car, including finance and insurance. A friends and family programme is also available.
Legal
Penningtons Manches Cooper is widely acknowledged for providing fast, proactive and practical support to police officers. Services for CNPF members and their families include medical negligence claims, personal injury claims for CNC officers and travel accident claims.
Coming soon…
We are finalising arrangements with a full-service law firm and a will-writing service provider. We hope to have their services available for you shortly.
