As I complete my first year as CEO, I’m reminded how rewarding - and challenging - this journey has been. Despite over a decade as a Federation Representative, stepping into this role has been a steep learning curve. I’m deeply grateful for the guidance of Darren Adams and Ian Muir, our Chair and Vice Chair, whose support has been invaluable.
This year brought significant change. The closure of Hunterston OPU required officers to redeploy, and we welcomed many MDP colleagues as our service expanded to four non-nuclear sites coming under the CNC umbrella. These transitions underscore both the challenges and opportunities we face.
Unit closures are never easy, and the changes announced this year understandably caused concern. We remain committed to supporting those affected.
On a positive note, we’ve invested heavily in our people:
Expanded training for unit Representatives, focusing on Conduct Regulations and Post-Incident Procedures.
Launched the CNPF monthly newsletter and strengthened our social media presence to keep members informed.
Looking ahead, our priorities are clear:
Advocate tirelessly for our members.
Strengthen communication across the Federation.
Empower unit Representatives to make a meaningful impact.
Secure organisational support for initiatives such as reviewing Neonatal Care Leave and adopting the Dying to Work Charter.
I’m proud to lead such a dedicated team of volunteer Representatives who regularly sacrifice their own time to support colleagues. Your commitment inspires me every day.
Finally, to all our members: I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, with heartfelt thanks to those working over the festive period. Together, we will continue to build a stronger future.
Colin Longstaff, CEO
