A timeline charting the history of the Civil Nuclear Police Federation has been compiled to mark the organisation’s 20th anniversary.
The Federation was established on 1 April 2005, following the passage of the Energy Act of the previous year, alongside the Civil Nuclear Constabulary (formerly known as the UK Atomic Energy Constabulary) and the Civil Nuclear Police Authority.
The timeline highlights some of the early challenges and negotiations Federation reps faced on behalf of their members. It tracks progress made on essential issues such as pay parity, with these debates paving the way for the structures in place today.
The timeline was initiated by the current Federation team, comprising CEO Colin Longstaff, Chair Darren Adams, and Vice Chair Ian Muir. It drew heavily on the experiences of former Federation CEOs, Nigel Dennis and Gary Thwaite.
Speaking on the day of the Federation’s 20th anniversary, Darren Adams said: “The Federation has made considerable progress in improving conditions for officers, but looking back over our history reminds us there will always be more we can do to support our colleagues in the future.”
