Reps learn from mock tribunal

13 March 2024

As well as organising regular training for our reps, we make sure we keep our Executive team's knowledge and skills up to date too.

Our Chair, Ian Muir (pictured left), CEO, Gary Thwaite (centre) and Vice Chair, Darren Adams (right) recently took part in a mock employment tribunal hearing organised by the Federation's legal advisors, Penningtons Manches Cooper and hosted at No. 5 Chambers in Birmingham.

The scenario concerned a police officer who raised a sex discrimination case against her employer after she had two flexible working patterns turned down. A judge and two barristers took part in the session, calling witnesses and listening to evidence as though it was a real case.

Darren Adams said, "We're often asked for advice on flexible working patterns, so it was beneficial for us to experience a dispute in this way. It was interesting to hear the legal arguments explained and useful to have the ability to ask questions of the barristers, judge and solicitors."

If you need guidance on flexible rosters or other working arrangements, please contact your local rep for support.
